The Heller Group was pleased to sponsor the 5th Annual Young Women in Law Charity Gala which took place last Thursday evening. This year’s event was in support of Covenant House, Canada’s largest homeless youth agency.
There was a lot off buzz about the keynote speaker, Elaine Liu (aka Lainey Gossip), and she delivered, treating the guests to everything from her insights on the most important skills for young women in business to how she views her role as a visible minority in Canadian media and, of course, a few celebrity gossip scoops!
Lainey’s advice for young women in business included that we shouldn’t be afraid to say “I don’t know.” She said that the people who don’t shy away from this phrase make an impact because she takes this as a sign that they are willing to learn. She also encouraged the crowd to focus on building strong communication skills and connecting with others as these social skills can be the ones that will take you to the next stage in your career. Education doesn’t always translate into strong communication skills and therefore it is important to balance becoming an expert in your area with being a strong communicator and connector.
The Heller Group is proud to support this event as it is a great opportunity for young professionals to get out and network with their peer group. We know a lot of work goes into planning and executing this great event and, on behalf of everyone here at The Heller Group, we would like to thank everyone who was involved in making last night a success and for supporting Covenant House.
